Mother of Bibliophiles, Breaker of Bewilderment, Queen of Myself
When I was growing up people always said I would be a teacher or a librarian. Well, I guess they were right. With over 20 years working in the world of libraries, my love of books has never waned. I’ve been bookwormish as far back as I can remember. I was hooked in the second grade when my mother bought me a set of Nancy Drew mysteries. I spent my elementary school years with Nancy, Bess, and George, solving mysteries.
Later on I became a science geek and decided to pursue a degree in biology. I did work in biotech for several years, but ultimately it wasn’t for me. I missed people, academia, and books. After I had my second child I received my teaching certificate and took a part-time job at the town library. That’s when I discovered my heart belonged to libraries! I decided to make a career of it and received my M. A. in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston.
Since that time I have worked in all areas of librarianship. I was a Children’s Librarian for five years while my kids were growing up. They attended my science clubs and craft fairs. It was a unique gift to be able to share my special world of libraries with them. Every Thursday morning I was Ms. Lisa, the story time lady. I had lots of fun with my little toddler and preschool friends.
But I missed working in Adult Services, and took a position as a Reference Librarian specializing in Technology and Reader’s Advisory. This is when my love of book clubs evolved into the passion it has become today.
